What MCU’s are you trying to program that they require a parallel port programmer?

Anyway, the problem is the software for my microcontroller programmer looks for a parallel port at the three standard parallel port addresses-0x, 0x, and 0x03BC but Windows 7 allocates non-standard parallel port addresses to PCI parallel port cards with no way to manually change them.
I have my old XP install on a VM, so migrating old software at this point is a non-issue. Data transfer rate support up to Technology has certainly moved ;ort at a pace! Not even all printers will work with those things, in my experience.

Now my VMs recognize the Startech parallel port but not the other ones which don’t have standard addresses. I’ve come to the conclusion that the only way I can potentially make this work is to intercept calls paraklel, say 0x from my microcontroller programmer software and redirect them to the Windows 7 parallel port address, and do the reverse in the other direction.
See each listing for international shipping options and costs. If my theory is right, it might free the standard address for the add-on controller. I even made a DOS 6. But it wasn’t expensive, 5.
moachip A call to D-Link tech support was of little help! Page 1 of 1 Start over Page 1 of 1. DLink 36in USB 2.
Unfortunately, the StarTech card was neither useful nor needed here. Let me guess, you found a circuit online that’s supposed to be a programmer for Arduino or ATmel chips that works using LPT.

There was a problem filtering reviews right now.

I even tried editing the microcontroller software with a hex editor and replacing one of the standard addresses with the one Windows 7 assigned. However, I could never get the serial port to work. If I could get my XP VM to recognize the parallel port which it should paeallel it’s at a legacy address then I might be able to get the programmer to work from within a VM. In fact the D-Link site doesn’t even list drivers for it. Of course, I needed a legacy address to get my programmer to work or so I thought-more on that later.
IF you’ve already bought it and have found that the chipset is not “legacy IO” compatible, then you’re screwed: Then again, even that would not work with the Pico and Velleman products because of the way that they communicate with the parallel port at the hardware level.
